Abstract
Sedimentation coefficients obtained from partition cell experiments using the equation developed by Yphantis and Waugh (J. Phys. Chem., 60:623,630, 1956) are presented. In each case the sedimentation coefficient of the species which carries the amino acid is the same as that of the total S-RNA and there are no significance differences in s among the three species examined (leucine, proline, valine). The author concludes that the specificity of S-RNA as an acceptor for different amino acids is not related to molecular weight. The basis for the biological specificity of S-RNA is thought to reside in its nucleotide composition or in the sequence in which the units are arranged.
