Abstract
Many persons argue that certification of a specialist indicates that he is up-to-date and competent at the time of examination but this does not prove that he continues indefinitely thereafter to be competent and aware of all important new knowledge in his field. This is obviously true and, as the certifying Boards become established and as they complete the examination of the large group of physicians already practicing the specialties, they may find it desirable to issue certificates that are valid for a stated period only. Keywords
