Abstract
Increased interest in precision optical systems using plastic optical elements has generated a need for applying durable multilayer antireflection coatings onto plastic substrates. The authors discuss the particular problems associated with coating plastics. The technique of ion-assisted deposition is presented as one solution and the relevant ion source parameters are identified. Multilayer coatings have been computer designed and applied to PMMA and polycarbonate substrates with encouraging results. Keywords
