Abstract
The LD50 for pure eugenol admd. to albino rats (approx. 200 g.) by stomach tube, was estimated to be 1.8 ml. (1.93 g./kg.). Toxic manifestations were as follows: Paralysis occurred initially in the hind limbs and the lower jaw. The fore limbs were unaffected unless general prostration or coma ensued. In the animals in which acute symptoms subsided signs of urinary incontinence, frequent hematuria, and impared function of the hind legs for several days were noted. From microscopic evidence the net effect was essentially that of circulatory collapse with resultant congestion. Keywords
