Abstract
The NOSIE is a reliable rating instrument, the reliability coefficients of the scales ranging from 0.70 to 0.91. In so far as length of stay and the Wing scales are appropriate criteria it is also a valid instrument. It is relatively short and comprises items which are brief and unambiguous, important features in scales of this sort. It is a useful rating scale in situations where long-stay patients are to be assessed in some detail. Keywords
