Abstract
There is present in human plasma a protein fraction having the capacity to bind Fe at physiologic pH ''s. Because of this fraction, as much as 9 mg. of Fe could be carried by the blood at a given moment in a 70-kg. man. Studies in vitro with Shigella dysenteriae showed that the fraction exerts a bacteriostatic action in the blood stream upon Fe -sensitive pathogens. This publication has 3 references indexed in Scilit:
