Effect of Nifedipine on Frequency-Force Relationship in Isolated Dog Left Ventricular Muscle.

Abstract
Nifedipine is a highly potent Ca2+-antagonistic inhibitor of excitation-contraction coupling. Nifedipine showed greater depression of developed tension at higher frequencies in the isolated, blood-perfused canine left ventricle. The mode of action of nifedipine on the myocardium may be similar to that of verapamil but differs from that of manganese chloride, pentobarbital, Ni2+ or La3+.
