Abstract
Evidence is presented for the thesis that the local circuit theory of conduction, originally adduced for nerve, holds for heart muscle strips. A new graphical method is proposed by which the monophasic action potential curve may be derived from experimentally recorded membrane current curves (volume conductor). A test of this analysis is carried out by experimentally modifying the membrane current curve and graphically deriving the new monophasic action potential curve. The theoretically derived monophasic curve is then compared with that obtained directly by expt. Theory and expt. are found to be in good agreement. Keywords
