Abstract
The design, construction, and operation of a fiducial wavenumber marking system for the Beckman IR‐7 infrared spectrophotometer is discussed. The system is activated by the uniform rotation of the main monochromator shaft, and superimposes regularly spaced marks on the recorded spectrum. This modification permits an exact evaluation of the frequency precision and linearity of a spectrophotometer with a cam frequency drive system, as well as the measurement of absolute frequencies with an accuracy of up to ±0.05 cm−1 in the first and second grating orders, and up to ±0.10 cm−1 in the third and fourth orders. A variable scanning speed control circuit and an auxiliary gear train for abscissa expansion are also described. Keywords
