Abstract
The pilot study described in this article has explored a collection of wide ranging issues concerning the development of research activity in institutions where teaching has previously been the predominant activity. The research methodology used a structured discussion group approach supplemented by a simple questionnaire to collect both qualitative and quantitative data.
