Abstract
Lacto-baclllus brevis strain X2 was used in a modified agar well diffusion technique to evaluate factors affecting hydrolysis of tributyrin as determined by the size the transparent zones around agar wells containing cell suspension. The sensitivity of the test was markedly increased by decreasing agar depth (lmm) and concentration of tributyrin (0.3%) and by increasing the diameter of the agar wells (7 mm), concentration of cell suspension (1010 cells/ml) and incubation period (30 hr). Using the above optimal conditions of the test many species of the genus Lactobacillus and other lactic acid bacteria possessed Upolytic activity. This publication has 6 references indexed in Scilit:
