Abstract
The principles of operation of solid‐state detectors generally will be discussed, hence both their theoretical limits and practical problems can be highlighted. The operating characteristics of various specific solid‐state detectors will be examined in more detail and a few of our own experimental results on a semiconductor gas detector will be presented. Keywords
