THE SENIOR CITIZEN AS COLLEGE STUDENT

Abstract
Most states have made provisions for tuition reduction or waiver so that senior citizens may enroll in courses at institutions of higher learning. Despite such opportunities, however, comparatively few senior citizens take advantage of the opportunities provided. A number of different reasons for the failure of the elderly to participate in educational opportunities have been proposed. This article reviews the current literature and suggests that more attention might be given to guiding the study and reading strategies of the elderly student.
