THE LUNG VOLUME AND ITS SUBDIVISIONS IN THE UPRIGHT AND RECUMBENT POSITIONS IN PATIENTS WITH CONGESTIVE FAILURE. PULMONARY FACTORS IN THE GENESIS OF ORTHOPNEA

Abstract
Studies were made in 12 patients. No increase in the degree of pulmonary congestion was demonstrated in recumbency in orthopneic patients. A cephalad shift of the diaphragm occurs in recumbency; this causes changes in respiration and circulation which tend to increase dyspnea.
