Abstract
As power systems have evolved in size and complexity so has the need for sophisticated and comprehensive real time control and dispatch techniques. Solutions presented in this paper are intended for on-line applications and are further designed to accommodate "network" as well as "nonnetwork" (e.g., environmental) and interacting operating restrictions. The paper reviews the criteria for the constrained optimization of real power; discusses practical approaches towards implementation; presents numerical results of tests on a large network model including the effects of convergence, external equivalents, and reference bus locations; proposes extensions to include reactive power dispatch and contingency constraintsKeywords
