Abstract
About 5500 female ground beetles collected from May to November, 1963, were dissected to determine the reproductive potential and breeding period of each of the 30 species represented. The maximum number of eggs present in gravid individuals varied from 5 to 40, but was within the range of 10 to 20 for most species. The breeding periods of 13 species studied, each with only one generation per year, usually lasted about 3 months; most of these were definitely either spring breeders or fall breeders.
