Abstract
The authors have performed the realistic tight-binding band calculations for Fe/Cr/Fe sandwiches by taking into account the interface randomness within the coherent potential approximation. It is shown that the interface randomness yields significant modifications in electronic and magnetic structures near the interface. Magnitudes of local magnetic moments on Cr and Fe atoms near the interface become larger by increasing the degree of the interface randomness. They discuss the implications of their calculation for the magnetoresistance recently observed in Fe/Cr multilayers. Keywords
