Abstract
The only absolute confirmation of the diagnosis of brucellosis is the isolation of Brucella organisms from the patient. Hepatic involvement in brucellosis has been known since the original description by Marston in 1859. Needle biopsy has been used to obtain Brucella abortus after blood cultures were negative. Isolation specifically of Brucella melitensis is believed reported for the first time in this paper. Our experience reemphasizes the feasibility of obtaining positive cultures by means of percutaneous needle biopsy of the liver, even in the absence of venous, stool, and urine cultures. Keywords
