To the Editor: With regard to the report by Penn et al.1 and the accompanying editorial by Dr. Young2 (June 8 issue), we want to point out that the injection of baclofen into the cisterna magna of anesthetized cats causes cardiorespiratory depression.3 The administration of baclofen by this route in doses ranging from 32 to 56 μg decreases minute ventilation and reduces the respiratory rate by more than 50 percent.3 The doses of baclofen used in our study ranged from 10 to 15 μg per kilogram of body weight, whereas the daily doses of baclofen administered to the patients described . . .
