Variation inTrichophyton rubrumas seen in a routine diagnostic service

Abstract
A survey has been made of the strains of Trichophyton rubrum occurring in a mycological diagnostic service during the 9 years of its existence. The great majority of the 265 isolates investigated could be assigned to the type Trichophyton (Epidermophyton) rubrum (Castellani, 1910) but 3 other described strains were also found, together with 2 hitherto underscribed. In addition, 1 strain intermediate between T. rubrum and T. mentagrophytes (interdigitale type) is discussed. Alle stämme von Trychophyton rubrum, die in einer mykologisch—diagnostischen Station während der 9 Jahre ihres Bestehens anfielen, wurden einer Überprüfung unterzogen. Die überwiegende Mehrzahl der 265 isolierten und untersuchten Proben konnte dem Typus Trichophyton (Epidermophyton) rubrum Castellani 1910 zugeordnet werden; außerdem wurden aber anders beschriebene Stämme gefunden, zusammen mit 2 Stämmen, die bisher noch nicht beschrieben waren. Außerdem wird ein Stamm, der eine Mittelstellung zwischen T. rubrum und T. mentagrophytes (Typus interdigitale) einnimmt, besprochen.
