Abstract
PERIPHERAL neuropathy is often associated with chronic renal insufficiency. This complication has become more frequent as patients with terminal renal disease are living longer because of treatment with chronic hemodialysis.1 , 2 The etiology and pathogenesis of this disorder are poorly understood.3 Intermittent hemodialysis has variously been reported to improve, arrest or aggravate uremic neuropathy, and the most beneficial effects appear to accrue from successful kidney transplantation.4 5 6 This report describes a patient with end-stage renal disease being treated with hemodialysis who experienced complete relief of a disabling peripheral neuropathy immediately after bilateral nephrectomy, which was performed as a therapeutic measure for uncontrollable . . .
