Abstract
The infrared spectra of CH3AsH2, CH3AsD2, CD3AsH2, and CD3AsD2 have been investigated from 250 to 4000 cm−1 in both the vapor and solid states. The Raman spectra of all four compounds in the liquid phase have been recorded. A complete vibrational assignment and normal coordinate calculation have been carried out. A large repulsion exists between the approximately degenerate pair of methyl wagging vibrations and the approximately degenerate twisting and wagging motions of the AsH2 group. The far‐infrared spectrum of CH3AsH2 has a broad, weak band centered at about 185 cm−1 which is assigned to the torsional vibration. Keywords
