EXPERIMENTAL RENAL INSUFFICIENCY PRODUCED BY PARTIAL NEPHRECTOMY

Abstract
In previous reports1 it was shown that partial nephrectomy is followed by a progressive development of polyuria, albuminuria, nitrogen retention, renal hypertrophy, hypertension and cardiac hypertrophy. Feeding different concentrations of whole dried liver produced variations in this syndrome and in the pathologic changes in the kidney. The present report is concerned with the effect of whole meat on the partially nephrectomized rat. It demonstrates that whole dried meat causes changes in the syndrome similar to those produced by diets containing liver. EXPERIMENTAL METHODS Details of the experimental procedures have been presented in previous papers.1 In these as in former experiments the control animals included rats with both kidneys intact and unilaterally nephrectomized rats.
