Abstract
A retrospective survey was made of 913 [human] cases of SMR [submucous resection] carried out in 1972-1974 by review of case notes and a postal questionnaire. Results were analyzed by computer. The operation helped 2/3 of the patients. The experience of the surgeon was important and the presence of other symptoms was not necessarily a contra-indication to surgery. Despite the resultant morbidity, there is still a very significant place for the operation in the surgical repertoire. This publication has 9 references indexed in Scilit:
