Growth of Histoplasma Capsulatum in Normal, Superinfected, and Immunized Mice

Abstract
Summary: Chronic infections were produced in mice by small numbers of viable yeast cells of Histoplasma. After initial rapid multiplication of Histoplasma, there was progressive decline in the number of viable organisms in tissues of mice. Chronically infected mice were resistant to the death-producing effects of large doses of yeast cells. Growth of Histoplasma was inhibited in superinfected mice. Growth of Histoplasma in mice was not affected by treatment of mice with serum from chronically infected mice or rabbits. Growth of Histoplasma in mice was not affected by immunization of the mice with a vaccine of Histoplasma.
