Abstract
The screened potential of an ion moving through a free-electron gas is calculated, and the resulting energy shift of bound electronic states of the ion is estimated. A decrease of the 2p-1s transition energy is found due to screening effects, it is compared with experimental results for high-velocity S projectiles in an Al target. Keywords
