Hyperfine-Structure Separations ofAu191andAu193

Abstract
The hyperfine-structure separation in the S122 electronic ground state has been measured for two radioactive gold isotopes, 3-h Au191 and 17.5-h Au193. Atomic-beam methods, after confirming that both nuclear spins are I=32, have provided hfs separations of Δν(Au191)=±5770(6) Mc/sec and Δν(Au193)=±5882(10) Mc/sec. Combined with recent work on Au197, these values give uncorrected nuclear-magnetic dipole moments of μI(Au191)=±0.136(7) nm, and μI(Au193)=±0.138(7) nm. Both measurements are consistent with the assignment of the unpaired proton in gold to a d32 shell-model level.
