Abstract
To the Editor: The conclusions and statements of Dr. Guralnick and his colleagues, in their article in the July 20 issue of the Journal, about the absence of pathologic changes in the articular eminence, and the use of a prosthesis in cases with severe organic disease, cannot be accepted.One definitely finds loss of cortical bone, with flattening and erosion of the articular eminence, in organic disease of the joint. This process is also accompanied by bony changes in the condyle and degenerative changes in the disk, with thinning, atrophy, displacement and tearing.
