Abstract
Approximations similar to those made in deriving the coupled-states approximation have been studied using the strong-coupling correspondence principle. It is shown that the validity of this approximation depends upon the properties of certain fundamental trajectory integrals and a detailed study of these integrals has been made. This approximation to the strong-coupling correspondence principle has been used to calculate cross sections for Ne-N2, Ar-N2and Ar-TlF collisions. Comparison with other calculations shows that the approximation is most successful for Ar-N2and least successful for Ar-TlF collisions. Keywords
