Abstract
Months or years after an episode of head trauma, new neuropsychological deficits may emerge. Head injury has been suggested as a risk factor for several degenerative neurological conditions, including the punch‐drunk syndrome, Alzheimer's disease, Pick's disease, Parkinson's disease and Creutzfeldt‐Jacob disease. In this article, we review the evidence for an etiologic role of head trauma in these conditions, consider possible mechanisms for the production of delayed neuropsychological deficits, and outline directions for future research. Keywords
