Abstract
A method for assessing visual acuity is developed based upon the visual angle subtended by objects. The method incorporates the trigonometric principles of similar triangles and requires the subject to identify objects or parts of objects in any environment. The examiner then measures the objects by viewing them through a template held at a fixed distance from the eye. The new acuity assessment is discussed in terms of the educational relevance. Keywords
