Zur Bestimmung des Carnitins

Abstract
A method is described for the estimation of 1-3 nag carnitine in the presence of choline and betaine. The substances are separated by filter paper chromatography or paper electrophoresis, rendered visible by exposure to I2 vapour and the carnitine eluted. After evaporation to dryness it is heated for 3 hours at 130[degree]C with concentrated H2SO4 which transforms it to crotonyl betaine. This is either titrated with permanganate or estimated biologically as the methyl ester using frog muscle.
