Abstract
Synergism between Calmodulin-Dependent Protein Kinase and C-KinaseA key to understanding how cells display sustained responses to activation through the calcium messenger system has been the recognition that receptor activation leads to the production of two messengers — inositol 1, 4, 5, -trisphosphate and diacylglycerol — that in turn activate separate pathways of information flow; these can be labeled the calmodulin and C-kinase branches, respectively. The platelet-release reaction29 , 41 42 43 is a cellular response that, in terms of duration, lies between the brief responses observed in skeletal-muscle contraction or neurosecretion and the sustained responses exemplified by aldosterone secretion from adrenal glomerulosa cells . . .Keywords
