Abstract
Inelastic neutron scattering experiments have been performed on the intermetallic compounds NdPb3 and NdSn3. Well resolved transitions between crystal field levels were observed at different temperatures and for each compound, two level schemes were possible. Magnetic measurements and elastic neutron scattering experiments were performed to remove this uncertainty. The experimental crystal field parameters deviate considerably from point charge estimatesKeywords
