Abstract
Different amounts of glucose (0.1 to 27.0 gm) were introduced into the pancreatic arterial circulation for five to 90 minutes and the peripheral venous blood glucose was estimated at intervals for several hours in dogs. A definite hypoglycemic response failed to occur. Comparison of results with those obtained following injection of the hepatic artery, portal vein and femoral vein showed no particular difference. Intraportal injection of 0.1 U of insulin, an amount equivalent to that secreted by the pancreas, failed to produce hypoglycemia. It is postulated that the amount of insulin provoked by pancreatic hyperglycemia is insufficient to produce definite peripheral hypoglycemia. Keywords
