Nursing Home Life Satisfaction and Activity Participation

Abstract
This article examines the effects of a resident-written magazine on life satisfaction and activity participation of residents of a nursing home. An experimental-control model was used, with 22 residents attending an eight-week writing workshop to produce a magazine and 20 residents not attending. The results showed a significant increase in life satisfaction scores for residents who worked on the magazine, while scores for residents who did not work on the magazine did not change significantly. Frequency of activity participation did not change significantly for either group.
