Abstract
Calcium-deficient rats, but not control animals, showed an appetite for diets containing this element. Magnesium-deficient rats, however, tended to avoid diets containing magnesium to a greater extent than did control animals. The appetite for calcium was similar to the learned appetites for B vitamins, and the magnesium avoidance had some characteristics in common with learned appetites. No appetite for diets containing potassium was found in potassium-deficient rats. Keywords
