Abstract
Tetramethylthiourea was used in the treatment of 30 patients with thyrotoxicosis. The changes in the clinical condition and in BMR were similar to those of 152 patients treated with thiouracil. No significant effects on the white count were observed. Three of the patients who developed febrile or skin reactions to thiouracil developed similar reactions to tetramethylthiourea. One of the non-thiouracil patients developed an urti-carial reaction; tetramethylthiourea was discontinued for five days and then resumed without further trouble. Another patient developed a febrile reaction, but subsequently treatment was given with no reaction. Diethylthiourea was given to 4 patients with less satisfactory response than similar ones treated with tetramethylthiourea or with thiouracil. This publication has 3 references indexed in Scilit:
