Abstract
The coexistence of 2 endemic diseases—goiter and Chagas' disease—in certain areas of Brazil suggested to Carlos Chagas a possible relationship of these 2 entities. Thyroid function was studied in Chagas' patients and in non-Chagas' controls, living in one of these regions where there is a high prevalence of both Chagas' disease and goiter. The incidence of goiter and the results of thyroid function tests were not significantly different in these 2 groups. It is concluded that Chagas' disease does not interfere with thyroid function. Keywords
