Abstract
The threshold behaviour of the ionisation of atoms and ions by electron impact is investigated. The two-electron outgoing wave is represented as a superposition of particular semiclassical solutions of the Schrodinger equation. The energy dependence of the coefficients of superposition is derived by investigating the matching with the solutions in the inner region. The results for total and differential cross sections are in full agreement with those obtained earlier by the Wannier method based on classical mechanics. Keywords
