Abstract
Ethanolamine was identified as the component of gramicidin hydrolysates which reacts with periodate to yield CH2O and NH3. Two ethanolamine residues may occur in the postulated stoichiometric minimum unit of gramicidin. During acid hydrolysis of gramicidin, destruction of ethanolamine is considerable. A basic fraction was isolated from partial acid hydrolysate of gramicidin and may contain "peptides" of ethanolamine. Keywords
