Testosterone and Tissue Respiration

Abstract
Testosterone added in vitro to slices or homogenates of the liver and kidney of rats, rabbits and guinea pigs inhibited respiration. The amt. of inhibition was related to the concn. of testosterone. Phosphate, pyruvate and alpha-ketoglutarate enhanced testosterone inhibition of guinea pig liver homogenate. Succinate, malate, oxalacetate, cis-aconitate, citrate, fumarate, ascorbate and DPN decreased the inhibitory effect of testosterone.
