Abstract
An analysis of the experimental results of a dielectric relaxation study is carried out for three mesomorphous substances of the 4-n-alkyl-4′-cyano-biphenyl series: pentyl, heptyl and octyl. It shows the existence of a low and high frequency absorption which is not explained by existing theories. The low frequency part can be explained by assuming collective movements of molecules and the high frequency part by assuming the presence of intra molecular movements. A numerical analysis based on this hypothesis allows us to interpret the experimental results and also to determine the order parameter, [pbar] 2Keywords
