Abstract
Semiempirical calculations of the array of potential curves likely to be important for thermal‐energy electronic excitation transfer from metastable helium to neon are presented, and probable mechanisms for formation of various neon excited states are discussed. Features of the scattering of helium metastables by neon as well as known product channels and total quenching rates are qualitatively interpreted using the calculated potentials. Keywords
