INCREASED SUSCEPTIBILITY TO PYELONEPHRITIS DURING ACUTE HYPERTENSION BY ANGIOTENSIN II AND NOREPINEPHRINE*

Abstract
An acute episode of hypertension was produced in rats by intravenous injections of angiotensin or norepinephrine. In rats that received Escherichia coli with the vasoconstrictor agent, pyelonephritis was exhibited to a significantly greater extent than in rats challenged with E. coli only. The short duration of the hypertension produced indicates that alterations in renal blood flow may be the important factor in the previously observed vulnerability of hypertensive rats to pyelonephritis.
