The Effects of Various Lipids on Growth of Mycelium of Agaricus Bisporus

Abstract
SUMMARY Growth of mycelium of Agaricus bisporus was stimulated by the addition of lipids to the basal medium. The addition of 9 commercial vegetable oils and beef and pork tallow caused increased growth of the same approximate magnitude. Esters of oleic and linoleic acid and oil additions with equivalent oleic and linoleic acid concentrations resulted in similar increased growth of mycelium. It is suggested that these fatty acids are largely responsible for the stimulation of growth caused by the vegetable oils. The growth of 5 isolates of A. bisporus was stimulated while that of one was not.Keywords
