Abstract
Hollander studied the incidence of different groups of hemolytic streptococci in infections of the urinary tract. The urine was obtained by catheteri-zation and cultured directly on blood-agar plates. All streptococci were grouped with Lancefield sera using the microscopic method described by Brown. The strains were further tested in regard to their ability to grow at 10[degree] and 45[degree] C, in the presence of 7% NaCl, 0.1% methylene blue, 10% bile, at pH 9.5; their ability to survive at 60 C for 30 min.; the final pH produced in 1% glucose broth; hydrolysis of Na hippurate and esculin was also detd. It was found that of 40 strains of hemolytic streptococci 10% belonged to Group A, 30% to Group B, 5% to Group C, and 55% to Group D. The significance of the findings is discussed. This publication has 13 references indexed in Scilit:
