Abstract
The activity of serum cholinesterase is a useful liver function test that may be employed in the differential diagnosis of jaundice. It is a test which probably mirrors liver cell damage and is reduced in liver disease. It is useful for following the recovery in cases of hepatitis. The serum cholinesterase activity is low in conditions in which low serum albumin is present (except in kidney disease) and in terminal and malignant diseases. When serum cholinesterase production by the liver is reduced, the albumin production by this organ is also low. Red cell cholinesterase was done and it was lower after meals. Keywords
