Abstract
An investigation was carried out with the hope of demonstrating a hypothetical ketone body regulating hormone of the pancreas, not identical with insulin. By aqueous extraction of the gland, followed by other purification steps, an extract was prepared which causes on the avg. a 30% reduction in the.ketone body output of rat liver slices, provided that anterior pituitary extract is also present in the incubation medium. The extract also causes hyperglycemia in the bed, but not in the fasted rabbit, and exhibits no insulin activity in this sp. Methods of prepn. and testing of the extract are reported in detail. Keywords
