Abstract
Presentation of Case First admission. A fifty-eight-year-old woman was admitted to the hospital because of jaundice and abdominal swelling.She had been in good health until six months previously, when epigastric pain developed. An upper gastrointestinal series was said to show a small peptic ulcer and a hiatus hernia; a barium-enema examination was interpreted as negative. With a bland diet and anticholinergic medication the pain subsided. One month before entry she became depressed, listless, anorectic and easily fatigued.
